Introduction
Mega Economy Set Sitting People from
NOCH, item
18402, is a 60-figure set in the red-package economy range of figures:
Simply Painted at a Budget Price!
It has never been more economic to populate a model landscape with figures. Each Mega Economy Figures Set includes 60 hand painted sitting model railway figures.
The Hobby Figures are painted more simply than the »classic« NOCH Figures. Ideal for decorating stations or public places. Optimally to positon in the background or in scenes which are farther away. Ideal for presenting a crowd of people.
You can recognize the particularly favourable NOCH Hobby Figures through their red packaging.
The figures can be modified by removing legs to make them fit into vehicles and other items with limited space.
The Set
All figures are pre-painted. Two are standing men. They represent small children to elderly folks. I did not compare each figure individually but I spotted at least five duplicate poses - two adults, three children. That makes 55 unique poses.
Clothing looks appropriate for the 1940s through today.
Molding is good. I did not notice visible mold seams or flash, nor did I find ejector marks or sink holes.
Some figures are thinner than others.
Detail
Some figures are mainly humanoid-shaped pieces of plastic. Most have recognizable features of body, face, and clothing. Notice the little girls with the big teddy bears. However, some of the children figures are very primitive. Whether or not that matters at a normal viewing distance, I leave to you to decide.
Facial features vary from merely an nose to identifiable eyes, nose, mouth, and even hair lines.
Clothing is the same. I have 20-20 vision and yet I did not see the waist belt detail, of one of the men until I was editing close-up photos. Other figures have well defined ties, collars, jackets, cuffs, and buttons. I painted the details on five randomly selected figures to reveal the detail.
Painting
These are ready-to-place figures, already painted. NOCH used matte paints so there is no shine.
Painting is not elaborate, with only one or two colors used for clothing, plus footwear, and purses, bags or luggage.
Enhancing?
I randomly chose five figures to enhance. I used simple washes to emphasize facial and clothing detail. One lady's clothing I trimmed with another color.
Those five figures are shown posed on a house porch and its roof. I show the figures in close-up, and from normal viewing distance.
Conclusion
NOCH's Mega Economy Set Sitting People is a good start for populating HO scenes and layouts. These figures have much of the detail of the advanced sets but are decorated with simpler, i.e., less expensive, painting. They will make a good start to populating large crowds of background figures, or with a little effort by a modeler, can be enhanced to foreground figures.
Of these 60 figurines, it appears that there are 55 unique poses. Detail is good. Poses look natural.
Considering that the painting is simplified for this set, the only thing I can complain about is that a couple of the child figures look primitive. Whether or not that matters at a normal viewing distance, I leave to you to decide.
This set affords modelers good start for populating HO scenes and layouts. Recommended.
