2K Water Gel
Water, water everywhere...If your model appetite is whet for water, NOCH can sate your thirst! Water covers 76% of the earth's surface, so modelers who want to model some can use NOCH's 2K Water Gel for ponds, creeks, lakes, rivers, sea shores -- any body of water can be created.
2K Water-Gel KitNOCH packs the two 100 ml bottles, two measuring cups, and two mixing sticks in a yellow blister pack backed by a label card. Multilingual instructions and three demonstrative photographs are on the back.
Initially the composition of the material is fluid like water. In this form it is ideal to create mirror-like water surfaces like ponds or lakes. After 30 minutes the gel will pour like honey and is perfect for making rivers. After 60 minutes it is a thick fluid and after 90 minutes it is viscous and can be applied for modelling mountain creeks. 2K Water Gel is a many-sided, easy-to-use material. A further advantage is that you may pour the 2K Water Gel on wood, plaster, styro-foam, metal, glass, ceramic and polystyrene (NOCH Finished Terrain Board Layouts). 2K Water Gel is waterproof, weatherproof and scratch proof when dry.
I used this to create a pond on my model railroad diorama shelf. The caps are easy to remove. The resins are clear. When I poured the first, the viscosity was water-like. The other bottle was more honey-like. Because of this, the part A and part B would flow out of the measuring cups at different rates, so I balanced them against each other in the mouth of the mixing cup.
When it appeared that the same amount amount of each had emptied into the cup, the stirring began. This creates many small air bubbles. NOCH recommends using a small flat brush to caress the surface as this will burst the bubbles and smooth the surface. It is at the stirring stage that you can tint the gel with the brown, green, or blue acrylic of NOCH Riverbed Colour Set.
I poured the gel directly into the pond. The gel slowly settled to a smooth puddle with a lip along the edge. I used the stir stick to spread the gel to the edges of the pond. I also tilted the base to let gravity do its magic. That let the gel level with no lip.
Many scenery products stink when curing. This product did not.
The drying time is recommended to be 18 hours. I set the diorama on as level a surface as I could find, and as recommended, covered the pond to protect it from dust.
While the gel is fluid, NOCH states that we can use a hair dryer to blow ripples and waves into the gel. I will try that effect in a forthcoming demonstration feature, as well as also demonstrate NOCH No.60872 Water Effects for foamy effects, like rapids and wave tops.
The next day the gel had dried to a hard glossy surface without any taciness (I must have mixed it properly!). All the air bubbles had popped. The water was clear. I added several of NOCH Laser-Cut minis Water and Riverside Plants (Please see Click here for additional images for this review. below for that review) to enhance the scene.
Closing ThoughtsThis product is very easy to use and yields excellent results. It did not stink. I look forward to mixing some color into it, as well as experimenting with making ripples and waves. Recommended.
