1⁄1Light Railway Coal Car
Randy Harvey [HARV] found this rail mine cart and took over 30 photos of it.
Small gondola cars like this were used in mines, agricultural ventures, construction sites and the like. They rolled the materials and minerals to dump into larger conveyances. They could be powered by hand, animal, engine, even cable. Some were even hitched to another and pulled with diminutive locomotives on narrow gauge tracks.
During the First World War hundreds of miles of (very) narrow gauge light "Trench Railway" supplied the trenches. This car resembles a Royal Army WDLR Light Railway L Class Tipper; they were bought from the USA and were built by the Western Wheeled Scraper Co. in England.
