Containers

Intermodal containers came in a riot of lengths.  That creates inefficiencies for railroads and trucking companies, which had to find a way to haul them.  Today most have settled upon 20’, 40’ and 53’.

With the phasing out of the once popular 48’ containers, TTX had little need for their 48’ well cars. These cars were still rather new, most built in the mid to late 1990s. So instead of scrapping cars that were in serviceable condition, TTX opted to start a rebuilding program in which the 48’ well cars were shortened to 40’ and/or lengthened to 53’.

Modelers do not need to go to the wishing well for rebuilt well cars, they can come to Atlas.  And to fill these new cars, Atlas has new containers.
