A place you can go to run a 100+ year-old steam locomotive - yeah, right! But it is not a myth and you do not have to capture a unicorn to find the Nevada Northern Railway in Ely, Nevada. In 2007 I partook of this fantastical realm of railroad reverence.

Steam Safari Redux

In 2007 three or four photo features of my visit to the Nevada Northern Railway (NNRY) went live on the original RailRoad Modeling.  Its archive has not yet been restored on this iteration of KitMaker Network so I am recreating the features.

Nevada Northern No. 40

Nevada Northern No. 40 is a Baldwin-built 4-6-0 "ten wheeler."  You can read about what it took to make sure she was ready for operations in this 3-part article published in 2005.

Enjoy the photos.

Engineer's gauge cluster, L to R, upper to lower: Steam gauge (167 lbs); air brake gauges; speedometer (17 mph); do not recall the right most brass gauge

The top-middle gauge is for the locomotive - red needle indicates the pressure in the Main Reservoir, and the black needle shows pressure in the locomotive brake cylinders.   In the black faced smaller gauge you see the red needle indicating pressure in the brake cylinder, and the white needle for the brake pipe, i.e., trainline pressure.

Shot with my first - and limited - digital camera.  Had to stitch several shots together.  No sound.  (I did mention it was limited camera.)
